When your past collude with the future you are trying to build

It is said that one's real enemy is his own self, be it his past, or alter-ego. Often times, the conflicts between the facade and deep-personality are something one only battles within. Like the deep web, there are things that one can only access through excavation, that not in the slightest of thought would he wish that any of these to be aired to the world, one way or the other.   Or even in private - for Rome can never be truly rebuilt if it is still living on its glorious, but rather careless, disgraceful past. Troy, the city that was claimed to never be conquered, eventually fall to the hand of the Greek. I could never imagine that Priam, the then king of Troy, would ever want any of the disgraceful act by Paris, courting Helen, the Queen of Sparta, to be elaborated in great detail by Homer, and for thousand of years, remain a story to read and remembered.  Neither would Cleopatra wished that her passion with Antony would seal the fate of the Great Pharaohs of Egypt....

May 1st

It is said that God took six days to create the universe - that is, if you believe in the Genesis. Over void and darkness, spirit hovers over the face of waters..and so the story goes... From darkness, there is light... From water, there is heaven... From heaven, there is earth... From earth, there are seas... From seas, there are trees... Then come the moon, sun, and the stars...Circling through heaven and earth.. For there comes time, seasons, and years. Then come birds and sea creatures.. Fly, and multiply! From there on, land animal came into being... To be dominated by a mirror of the creator. But, Who is Adam without Eve? Alexander without Roxanne? Anthony without Cleopatra? Joseph without Zulaikha? We were created in pairs, and in pairs shall we fly and prosper. Albeit, fit seems to be overlooked for the pursuit of power, pride, and prosperity. Overshadowed by beauty - one needs to look hard to know the true essence, and go beyond what naked eye can see.  I am no Genes...

You only need three things in life to be happy

A man quickly runs into the shades of Tottenham Court Station with his umbrella still open. All wet, he shrugs, all while thinking about his next move. In a land far away, a lady is writing in her sleep, with a long sigh, that it May be another restless night.  Looking down at his phone, the man thought, ":c" How should I reply to this? Walking out into the rain, he took a deep breath..and pressed the green button. Hoping.  And as the story goes, the rest of the night would eventually turn out to be the highlight. Albeit, there is one realisation that, despite the wonders of a magnificent city, his heart remains elsewhere. Really deep in him, a small voice whispered, I miss you. I want to go home. For the remainder of his time in the City, he can't help but have only one thing in mind.  One. I mentioned three, didn't I?  No, one is all we need to be happy. One to look forward to every day, every morning when he wakes up, One to smile, One to laugh, One to pamper, One...

Progress

1. I am of the view that progress can be made only with collaboration 2. To collaborate effectively, we need to treat each other as equals, sizing up on strengths, appreciating the differences, and looking past imperfections. 3. Progress is often the by-product of a free country. Land of the free and home of the brave – a familiar phrase if you studied or lived/currently living in the USA. 4. I feel that Malaysia's biggest roadblock to progress is the superiority complex. We were taught at school and home that religion A is better than religion B, race A is better at business vs others, etc. 5. The air of superiority and social divide are obvious. Collaboration and unity are rather rhetorical than done; whatever is said remains superficial, concealing the dark side deeply rooted in our society. 6. The recent B&ssku event revealed a more resounding crack – our confirmation bias is so severe it may take decades to reset. 7. It used to be bad, then worsened, and is now dangerous....

May the force be with me

Automobiles may potentially be the single most influential invention of all time. Thousands of moving parts are synchronised to give the driver a precise yet satisfying moment. It is astonishing to think that behind the luxuries of one's leather-clad interior lies a complex ecosystem that gives you all the comfort one can once only dream of. But behind all these parts is a central control unit that precisely does all the calculations to the milliseconds, delivering sheer driving pleasure.  Take it up a few notches, and we may look at the most magical form of being ever bestowed on earth. Humans were created from billions of cells that interact with each other faster than any computer can ever achieve. Like automobiles, humans are also run by a central control unit, but mind you, it is hard to imagine how we run our bodies because nobody taught us how. Or was it?  That is how powerful our mind is. However, most of us may have used at most 5% of its potential. One needs to tap i...

Greatness come in pairs

What do Brunello, Burgundy, and Bordeaux have in common?  If these names are familiar to you, congratulations! You have experienced the finer things in life. And being able to appreciate their characters and complexities will effectively separate you from the rest. The upper echelon, as they called it.  However, these, how nice they may be, will not be able to extract their full flavour without pairing with something of a particular vintage. It can be a dry-aged beef or an 18-month-old cheddar cheese. Vintage helps emphasise their characters, which shall be the highlight to end a long week that could've otherwise turned into a careless Friday night - flushed and wasted. And hey, didn't the Dr say red is good for your heart and vintage cheese is good for your gut? It is the perfect recipe for a beautiful and healthy long life.  The world, as we know it, works on the same pattern. It is a complete system where different matter and energy co-exist. Despite centuries of evolu...

Why do fools fall in love

Did you know that somewhere in this world, a reindeer will return your bow? If you ever found one, I highly recommend feeding it. But you may not find it if you go around looking for one. Keep these thoughts in mind; they might find their way towards you.  I started 2024 feeling unsettled. Things were all over the place in 2023, and there was never a recap. The thought of this wave passing through 2024 was really disheartening. But, the world's miracles would indeed come from sources one least expected. Suddenly, a swoosh of energy came fast and struck me hard. I didn't know it then, but those energies were absorbed, not thrown.  It was the most beautiful thing I have ever experienced since I first learned how to walk.  Three days ago, I stepped into a room full of strangers - where I would typically choose a quiet corner and comfortably set up my private space. In the machismo, stoic Tariq way, I would keep my pride high and try to be the Sigma who answers all questions....
